Sales of Microsoft Xbox Series consoles surpass those of Sony’s PS5 in Europe for the first time since launching, following new stock availability.
Microsoft and Sony have always been rivals in the gaming industry. Microsoft was in a leading position last month with Xbox Series X/S console sales surpassing those of the PS5 in February.
The Xbox Series X and S consoles were released in November 2020 and are the most recent Xbox consoles from Microsoft. Sony’s PlayStation 5 console was released in the same month in 2020. Both consoles are popular in their own right but have always held a rivalry between them as two of the big three console companies, the third being Nintendo.
While Microsoft has suspended all sales of Xbox consoles in Russia, sales have been booming in the rest of Europe. Gamesindustry.biz has released its European Monthly Charts, and it reports that more Xbox Series consoles have sold in the last month than PS5 consoles. This is due to the rise in availability of Xbox Series S consoles in Europe recently. The stocks of both the PS5 and Xbox Series X continue to be a struggle for both consoles.
This report is a huge win for Xbox and its Series consoles since there have been many issues with availability due to the pandemic. Sony has been having the same issue with speculation that this could lead to the PS5 having a longer console generation than expected.
It’s worth noting that these rising Xbox sales are mainly from Europe and don’t reflect sales of the consoles in North America or any other part of the world at this time. The growing availability of the Xbox Series S having a part in the success of these sales in Europe is promising and could allude to more stock being available in the future. At the same time, Microsoft has been thriving with the success of Game Pass outside of physical console sales.
Even two years after its release, Xbox Series X and S have still held popularity among console fans. However, rumors have even been going around speculating Microsoft could have a new console in the works, which is indeed exciting. That being said, the shortages of Xbox consoles slowly coming to an end could, fans would definitely still be willing to get their hands on a console that has become more widely available after being plagued by constant shortages. Perhaps Microsoft could hold off on a new console for a little while longer, but of course, fans might also be into something new on the horizon.
